Modeling Solar Radiation at the Earth’s Surface
Measurement Networks and Data Quality Assessment
Finding measured solar radiation data involves locating measurement networks and experimental stations. Most countries have established and maintained national networks, but the number and quality of these networks is constantly evolving, usually due to financial problems or changes in scientific priorities. Measurement stations being too scarce compared to the need for data in all applications, it is generally necessary to complement purely measured (or “primary”) data by partly - or completely - modeled data (referred to here as “secondary data”).
