AMBURANA
Botanical Name: Amburana cearensis Relatively strong for its weight, amburana is a good choice for joinery. Its irregular oranqe rays produce attractive veneers. Found mainly in the tropical, dry regions of South America, the trees often tower to 100 feet. The wood can pique the senses with an odor of vanilla.
Other Names: Cerejeira, cumare, cumaru, rajada (Brazil); roble del pais, palo trebol (Argentina); ishpingo (Peru).

Characteristics: Interlocked and irregular grain; medium to coarse texture; yellowto pale brown with a subtle orange tint, darkening slightly with exposure.
Uses: Furniture, joinery, boat building and veneers. Workability: Good; dulls cutting edges moderately; reduce cutting angle of blade when planing irregular grain; pre-bore for nailing; moderate bending properties. Finishing: Accepts finishes well when filled.
