Many holidays of Thailand, also festivals are connected with a lunar calendar and their dates can change. In solemn days banks of Thailand and government agencies are closed. The unique exception - the Chinese New year which is not a municipal holiday though after all this time of rest in Thailand and the most part of the companies does not work.
On January 1 — New year.
On April 6 — Day of Chakri, Rama's I celebration.
On April 13-15 — Songkran (A water holiday).
On May 1 — Day of work.
On May 5 — Day of crowning.
On August 12 — Day of the birth of its majesty of the queen. On October 23 — Day of Chulalongkorn, Rama's V celebration. On December 5 — Day of the birth of its majesty of the king. On December 10 — Day of the constitution. On December 31 — eve of New year.
Holidays with variable date
The Chinese New year (the 1st month of a lunar calendar, as a rule it in Thailand in January - February).
Makh Pudzha (February full moon). Celebration of day when the Buddha appointed Buddhism doctrines.
Visakh Pudzha (May full moon). Celebration of the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha. The most highly respected Buddhist holiday.
Asankh Pudzha (July full moon). A holiday in honour of the first sermon of the Buddha.
