OBLIQUE PROJECTION
The elevation of the object is drawn to scale and parallel to the observer, as in orthographic projection, but receding lines, i. e. the sides of the plinth not visible in 331:1, are drawn at a convenient angle 30°, 45°, or 60° according to the set-square available. Figure 331:1 shows the plinth side drawn at an angle of 45°. If the receding lines are short the angle should be fairly large; if they are long the angle should be acute, otherwise an exaggerated effect is produced. Figure 333:2 gives the effect achieved by drawing the side to half the scale of the front, which gives a more pleasing appearance, but a warning notice should be

included in the drawing if this method is adopted. Circles and parts of circles can be drawn with the compass in oblique projection, and the method is invaluable for showing details of constructional jointing, etc.
