This Week at MoMA: November 10–16
Now that there’s a chill in the air, it’s an opportune time to spend the day inside the Museum. Some highlights for this week:
• Our annual MoMA Film Benefit is tonight, Monday, November 10, honoring Academy Award–winning director Alfonso Cuarón (Y Tu Mamá También, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Gravity) and supporting the Museum’s Department of Film collection.
• At the MoMA Design Store Soho on Tuesday, November 11, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., artist Nathan Sawaya will sign his book The Art of the Brick: A Life in LEGO® and talk about his journey from lawyer to LEGO® artist. His amazing sculpture Yellow will be on display for the event.
• The Department of Film’s annual series featuring its selections for this year’s most influential and innovative films, The Contenders, kicks off on Thursday, November 13, with a screening of JC Chandor’s A Most Violent Year, including a post-screening discussion with the director. Check MoMA.org/film for the latest screening announcements and film descriptions.
• On Saturday, November 15, Making Music Modern: Design for Ear and Eye opens in the Architecture and Design Galleries. The exhibition gathers designs for auditoriums, instruments, and equipment for listening to music, along with posters, record sleeves, sheet music, and animation—all from MoMA’s collection (and maybe your own!).
• Head to MoMA PS1 on Sunday, November 16, for a Sunday Sessions event marking the 40th anniversary the influential independent press Semiotext(e), with an afternoon of performances, screenings, music, and readings. Visit the MoMAPS1.org event page for a full schedule and ticketing info.
