November 12, 2014, 1:30 p.m. — Look, Think, Design: A Collection of Ideas
In this inquiry-based discussion about modern design, you'll learn about contemporary design processes such as 3-D printing, rapid prototyping, laser sintering, digital rendering, virtual realities, and even “slow-manufacturing” using worker bees. Examine a selection of objects and, from their forms, deduce processes of design and manufacture. The cultural meanings and impacts of these designs are also discussed, including the question, "Why was this design made?"
Gallery Sessions, impromptu interactions facilitated by Museum educators that explore the creative process, art history, and the experience of art, take place daily in select galleries. Groups meet in the galleries noted on the schedule. Gallery Sessions are free with Museum admission. No registration is required.
Sign language–interpreted Gallery Sessions are held every fourth Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m. FM headsets for sound amplification are available for all talks.
