January 9, 2015, 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. — «Drawing with Scissors»: A Cut-Out Contest
Can you cut paper like Henri Matisse? The artist adopted the seemingly simple cut-out technique as his primary form of art making in the last decade of his life, but the tremendous skill that went into creating these works should not be underestimated.
As a closing celebration for MoMA Studio: Beyond the Cut-Out, this playful event invites you to demonstrate your cut-out skills. Engage in a friendly competition with fellow participants, using scissors to cut original forms out of gouache-painted paper, in the style of the modern master of cut-outs. Your creations will be displayed in MoMA Studio and considered for special merit awards in the categories of technique, fluidity, form, and originality. A panel of special guest judges will select the honorees at the end of the event.
