ADVANCES IN COMPOSITE MATERIALS - ECODESIGN AND ANALYSIS
Prediction of the tensile module
Due to the effect of fibers, the maximum permissible deformation of NASC is only about 10% of that of rubber and the bearing capacity of NASC is greatly improved. The tensile module can be used to characterize the bearing capacity of NASC. The longitudinal tensile module EcL can be calculated by Eq. (27) if the aspect ratios of fibers are relatively concentrated, otherwise it can be calculated by Eq. (28).
EcL =fp [ fei fi ffVf O1 +VmEm j (27)
EcL = fp ( Z f>1 fi ff Vfn + fm VmEm I
Vn=1 £c J
where ofn can be calculated according to Eq. (29).
where Xn is the mean aspect ratio of fibers with the length ln Vfn is the volume content of fibers with the length ln, and fp=1-1.9p+0.9p2. The Halpin-Tsai equation is employed to predict the transverse tensile module of NASC EcH with single orientation.
where
In consideration of the effect of fiber length and orientation and porosity of material on the transverse tensile module, Eq. (32) is established.
