At this time of year, especially, you have to be selective about how your fill your calendar. Here are our picks for this week:
• Sketch in the spirit of Toulouse-Lautrec on Tuesday from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Drop by the Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec exhibition for a free, informal drawing session in the galleries or with a live model.
• Art takes on the big screen this week with a 7:00 p.m. screening of Mike Leigh’s Mr. Turner on Tuesday, as part of The Contenders 2014.
• In conjunction with the Robert Altman film retrospective, the coauthors of Altman (Abrams, 2014)—Kathryn Reed Altman, the director’s wife, and Giulia D’Agnolo Vallan—join screenwriter Joan Tewkesbury and actor Michael Murphy for a special book signing on Friday, followed by a screening of Nashville (tickets required).
• This weekend, take an intimate after-hours tour of Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs led by a MoMA educator. Hourlong tours are offered at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
• On Sunday, join illustrator and MoMA holiday card designer Sophie Blackall at the MoMA Store in Soho. She will be crafting ornaments inspired by her new book, The Baby Tree, and signing copies for purchase.
• Need a last-minute holiday gift? MoMA gift memberships are a thoughtful present that can be enjoyed all year long. To ensure timely delivery call (888) 999-8861 or stop by the Museum during regular hours and pick up a festive holiday gift pack in person.
