November 20, 2014, 1:30 p.m. — Jackson Pollock: Man, Myth, and Materials
Jackson Pollock revolutionized American painting. Not only did he develop a unique method of dripping and splattering paint, but he was also among the first Abstract Expressionists to make large, non-figural pictures. We will talk about Pollock's biography and artistic journey leading up to his breakthrough drip paintings, as well as the materials he used to make them. Our discussion will also touch upon the recent conservation of One: Number 31, 1950.
Gallery Sessions, impromptu interactions facilitated by Museum educators that explore the creative process, art history, and the experience of art, take place daily in select galleries. Groups meet in the galleries noted on the schedule. Gallery Sessions are free with Museum admission. No registration is required.
